Obituary

Lawrence "Larry" Kolvis, Jr, 66, of Keokuk, IA died March 23, 2009 in Douglasville, GA. He was born in Mason City, IL on August 1, 1942 the son of Lawrence and Martha Thomas Kolvis. He was first married to Marilyn Williamson and to this union three children were born, Kevin, Shannon and Larry. He then was united in marriage to Judy McGillivray on June 1, 1984 in Alexandria, MO. She survives. Other survivors include, two daughters, Laysha Kolvis of Keokuk, IA, and Shannon Towers and her husband Larry of Havana, IL, two sons, Kevin Kolvis and his fiancé' Michelle of Havana, IL, and Larry Kolvis and his fiancé' Melinda of Havana, IL, three step sons, James Wigginton and his wife Libby of Keokuk, IA, Kenny Irvin of Keokuk, IA and Kent and one step daughter, Peggy, 11 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, one great grandchild, two brothers, Mike Kolvis and his wife Jane of Havana, IL, and Eldon Kolvis and his wife Kay of the state of Washington, his mother in law, Winnie McGillivray of Keokuk, IA, and a sister-in-law Shirley Kiester of Keokuk, IA, several nieces and nephews and many friends and neighbors including his best friend Roger Lindner of Keokuk, IA. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law, Bud McGillivray, his bother-in-law, Jerry Kiester, one grandson and one granddaughter. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Vietnam War. He was employed by Gem City Trucking in Keokuk for 13 years and then worked for Shelman & Son Trucking of Winfield, IA retiring in 2008. He was a member of the Eagles Club. Larry loved to tinker and fix anything, from toys to radios to trucks. He was also an avid NASCAR fan. Graveside services with military rites will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, June 18 in the old section of Keokuk National Cemetery off of 18th street, with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. There will be food and fellowship for family and friends at 4 p.m. Thursday at the VFW, 601 Johnson Street in Keokuk.
