LaVeta Mae Spring, 69, of Keokuk, IA died Saturday, November 19, 2005 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born on February 5, 1936, in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Harvey and Iceal Hurd Cook. She was united in marriage to Martin Spring in Portsmouth, NH on June 11, 1956. He preceded her in death on August 15, 1975. She had been employed at the Ordinance Plant in Middletown, IA. LaVeta attended the Melrose United Methodist Church. She loved bird of all kinds and had raised cockatiels; she also collected cookbooks and loved to cook for her family. LaVeta was a loving mother and grandmother and cherished the time she spent with her family. She is survived by five sons, John Spring and his wife Jean, of Crowley, CO, Gary Spring of Keokuk, David Spring and his wife Paula of Keokuk, IA, Kenneth Spring and his girlfriend, Lilly Vermeesch of Keokuk, IA, and Lonnie Spring of Keokuk, IA, one daughter, Jami Spring of Keokuk, IA, several grandchildren, three brothers, Harvey Cook and his wife Margaret of Keokuk, IA, Leonard Cook and his wife Carol of Springfield, IL, and Jerry Cook and his wife Rosemary of Florida, one sister, Shirley Erb of Argyle, IA, nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by one son, Donald L. Spring and several brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m, Tuesday, November 22, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend John Abraham officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery, Keokuk, IA. A Memorial was established for the Downs Syndrome Association.
