Laura Reem, 86, of Keokuk, IA died Thursday, July 31, 2014 at her home in Keokuk. She was born January 13, 1928 on the family farm in Jackson Township, Iowa the daughter of William and Mary Haisch Wyatt. On August 6, 1950, Laura was united in marriage to Lee Reem in Keokuk, IA. He preceded her in death on May 8, 2005. She graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1944. She then graduated from Western Illinois State College now known as Western Illinois University in 1949. After her college graduation she taught school for two years in Avon, IL as a home economics teacher. She had worked at Security State/ Norwest Bank for twenty-four years retiring as Assistant Vice President and cashier. Laura was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk and St. Paul Women's Circle. Laura volunteered for the Meals on Wheels program and also spent time volunteering at the Keokuk Area Hospital where she was a member of the Keokuk Area Hospital Auxiliary. Laura enjoyed sewing, needlework, quilting, traveling and the company of her cats. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Her memory will be cherished by her daughter, Susan Schlatter and her husband Joel of Hamilton, IL, her son, Harold Reem and his wife Norma of Arlington, VA, two grandchildren, Nathan Schlatter and his fiancé Alicia Ludden of Columbia, MO, and Rachel Stansbery and her husband Matt of Warsaw, IL along with many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband she was also preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and two brothers. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, August 2nd, 2014 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Reverend Matt Hunt officiating. Burial was in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in rural Keokuk. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul United Church of Christ or the Lee County Hospice.
