Laura E. Akers, 87 of Keokuk died Sunday, March 5, 2017 at her home.
She was born May 18, 1929 in Tipler, WI the daughter of James and Elizabeth Schoon-Rossi.
On June 9, 1950 she was united in marriage to George Akers in Carthage, IL. He preceded her in death in November of 1989.
She was a member of the Webster Community Church in Webster, IL.
Laura had five generations in her family which meant the world to her and she enjoyed them all. She loved reading western books, going on trail rides and looked forward to attending the Ft. Madison rodeo every year. John Wayne was her favorite actor.
She is survived by two sons, Dave Akers of Keokuk and Chris Akers of Webster, IL, four daughters, Mary Akers of Keokuk, Erika Cady (Charles Bean) of Sarasota, FL, Sandy Akers of Kahoka, MO and Pam Watkins (James) of Fountain Green, IL, twelve grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Laura was also preceded in death by three sons, Hope, Richie and Joseph (Jody), one daughter, Lori Love, four brothers, George, Charles, Thomas and James (Dub) Rossi and her parents.
A funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Webster Community Church in Webster, IL with Reverend Larry Wallingford. A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday at the Moss Ridge Cemetery in Carthage, IL.
