Larry Mitchell, 87, of Kahoka, passed away Friday, May 22, 2026, at his home in Kahoka.

He was born December 17, 1938, in Ashton, Missouri, the son of L.C. and Goldie Perry Mitchell. Larry graduated from Revere High School. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country until receiving his honorable discharge in 1959.

Larry was a longtime member of Kahoka VFW Post 4342, where he enjoyed the friendships and camaraderie he shared over the years and was known as the “Fireman.”

He dedicated much of his working life to the Kahoka Cheese Factory, where he worked for thirty-eight years, and later worked at Keokuk Prototype for fifteen years.

He was first united in marriage to Ruby Emma Davis. They later divorced. He then married Linda Lou Mitchell on February 25, 1964. She preceded him in death on August 21, 1997.

Larry is survived by two daughters, Stephanie Pace (Eric) of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and Katrina Kay Long of Walnut Grove; four sons, Sam Mitchell of Kahoka, Mike Mitchell (Susie) of Hollister, Missouri, Jeff Mitchell (Penny) of Keokuk, and Todd Mitchell (Eddie) of Rowlett, Texas; his grandson he raised as his own, Sammy Andrew Mitchell; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Allie McDaniel of Kahoka; one brother-in-law, Tim Patterson of Keokuk; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Howard and Ada Campbell; two daughters, Sally Paar and Penny Booth; one grandson, Aron Long; one brother, Jack Mitchell (Hilda); one sister, Alene Patterson; brother-in-law, J.R. McDaniel; and two nephews, James Lee Wood and Michael Howard Wood.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at the Kahoka Cemetery in Kahoka.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family in care of Stephanie Pace.

The Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka is assisting the family with arrangements.
