She was born on August 20, 1991 in Canton, Illinois, the daughter of Bobby Ray and Lisa Lynn Baker Hunkeapillar. Katie was a Junior at Central Lee High School in Donnellson, IA where she was a cheerleader. She was a member of the Montrose Nazarene Church and the Girl Scout Troop #9218. Katie loved life and was very enthusiastic about everything she did. She enjoyed helping other people and had served as a volunteer at the Ft. Madison Community Hospital where she received the Junior Volunteer of the Year Award. Katie loved to listen to music, dance and hang out with her friends. Her special interests included cheerleading, Hawaiian décor and palm trees, and collecting monkeys and care bears. She is survived by her parents, Bobby and Lisa Hunkeapillar of Montrose, IA, two sisters, Alyssa and Desiray Hunkeapillar of Montrose, her maternal grandparents, Everett and Nancy Baker of Keokuk, IA, her paternal grandparents, Bobby and Sueann Hunkeapillar of Ipava, IL, several aunts, uncles, cousins and many good friends. She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents and three cousins. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Preston Smith officiating. Burial was in the Montrose Cemetery in Montrose, IA. Visitation was held after 1 p.m., Sunday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with the family meeting with friends from 6 – 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the family.
