Kathryn Rachel Harter, 105, of Keokuk, IA, died Thursday, December 8, 2011 at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born on July 30, 1906 near Carthage, IL the daughter of Lewis and Emma Jane Dee Patterson. On March 19, 1924, Kathryn was united in marriage to Ray Harter at the old Court House in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on August 31, 1975. She graduated from Hamilton High School in Hamilton, IL. Kathryn had been a devoted homemaker and had lovingly cared for her family. She enjoyed gardening and grew beautiful flowers. She also enjoyed sewing and visiting with people. She is survived by two daughters, Betty Frohreich of Baudette, MN and Jean Brown and her husband Pearl of Stockport, IA, one son, Ray Harter, Jr. and his wife Beverly of Keokuk, IA, one son-in-law, Bob Crompton of Fort Myers, FL, fifteen grandchildren, thirty one great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Maxine Crompton, one sister, Nana Holtsclaw, one brother, Claude Patterson and one son-in-law Fred Frohreich. Funeral services were held at 12 noon on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Robert Owen officiating. Burial was in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Stockport, IA. Memorials may be made to the Keokuk Area Hospital Foundation.
