Kathryn L. Elston, 92, of Keokuk, died Saturday, October 19, 2013 at River Hills Village in Keokuk, IA. She was born May 21, 1921 in Keokuk the daughter of J.H. and Mary Loter Finley. Kathryn was raised by her mother and step-father, Carl Simmons. On September 24, 1938 she was united in marriage to Paul Elston in Keokuk, IA. He preceded her in death on October 13, 1973. Kathryn had been employed at several different factories in the area including Swift in Keokuk, Armour Dial in Ft. Madison, IA, the Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, IA and Dryden in Keokuk. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Keokuk where she had been baptized. Kathryn was a wonderful cook and made pies and bread for her family to enjoy. She was a skilled seamstress and made clothing for her family. Kathryn loved to travel to Branson, MO to enjoy the western music and see Mickey Gilley. She also liked to watch her grandson race and travel to Arkansas with her daughter. She is survived by three daughters, Ruthann Anderson and her husband, Bill of Keokuk, Gloria McCarl and her husband Frank of Montrose, IA and Patty Glasgow and her husband Mike of Springdale AR, two sons, Jerry Elston of Denmark, IA and Jim Elston and his wife Carole of Donnellson, IA, thirteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, one brother, Carl Simmons, Jr. of Canton, MO and one sister, Deloris Brown of MI. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul. A private family graveside service was held at Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Alzheimer's Society.
