Kaitlyn Elizabeth Dochterman May

Kaitlyn Elizabeth Dochterman May, 25, of Cedar Rapids, IA, passed away Thursday, August 20, 2026, at her home.

She was born January 25, 2001, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, the daughter of D. Brent and Julie (Whitmore) Dochterman. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School with the class of 2019.

Kaitlyn was a creative and artistic person who expressed herself through music and drawing. She loved to travel and enjoyed discovering new places and experiencing all that life had to offer. A compassionate and caring person, Kaitlyn had a humanitarian spirit and was always willing to help those who were less fortunate. She enjoyed music, walking, the mountains and the beach. Above all, Kaitlyn treasured the time she spent with her children and the memories they made together.

She is survived by her parents, D. Brent and Julie (Whitmore) Dochterman of Houghton, IA; her son, J. Alan May; her daughter, Remedios “Remy” Elizabeth May; two sisters, Darcy Ann Dochterman (Hunter Bell) and Christine Lee Dochterman; and her grandmothers, Connie Dochterman of West Point, IA, and Catharine Whitmore of Donnellson, IA.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Jack L. Dochterman and Wayne E. Whitmore.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 31 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Father Dan Dorau officiating. A private family burial will be held at Montrose Cemetery in Montrose, IA.

Memorials may be made to Brent or Julie Dochterman, with memorials being used to benefit Kaitlyn’s children.
