View Video Tribute June E. Elston, 89, of Montrose, IA, died Saturday, March 13, 2010 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born on June 27, 1920 in Montrose, IA, the daughter of Frank and Emma Jacques Davis. On July 29, 1939 June was united in marriage to Donald Elston in Keokuk, IA. He preceded her in death on April 20, 1993. June graduated from the Montrose High School. She was employed at Sheaffer Pen Company in Ft Madison, IA for twenty years before her retirement. She also was a dedicated farmer's wife. June enjoyed cooking and her specialties were her homemade pies and chicken and noodles She also enjoyed reading and watching horse races. The highlight of her life was being the Grand Marshall of the Montrose Watermelon Festival in 2004. June dearly loved all her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren. She is survived by one son, D. Thomas "Tommy" Elston and his wife Roberta of Montrose, IA, two daughters, Maris Benner and her husband Tom and Judith Wells and her husband Jerald all of Montrose, IA, 15 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mildred McVeigh of Montrose, IA and Marcia Kempker and her husband Joe of Tempe AZ, many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also preceded in death by one daughter Nedra Glasgow, three brothers, Theodore Davis, Franklin Davis and Earl "Squirrely" Davis, three sisters, Flora Davis, Aline Griswold and Helen Azinger. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Brother Bill Hauser and Reverend Goldie Laymon officiating. Burial was in the Montrose Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Montrose United Methodist Church of Montrose, the New Testament Christian Church of Keokuk, IA or the Montrose Fire Department.
