Julia "Judy" Sheffler, 84, of Keokuk, passed away Friday, November 15, 2013 at Lexington Square in Keokuk, IA. She was born on June 9, 1929 in Keokuk the daughter of Carl and Mary Coyle Marlin. On June 21, 1948, Judy was united in marriage to Frederick J. Sheffler at the St. Peter Catholic Church in Keokuk, IA. He preceded her in death on June 16, 2001. Judy worked right out of high school as a private secretary at Bowman –Boyer. She managed the Spiegel catalog store on Main Street in Keokuk for many years. She was in real estate in Keokuk for forty years and was the broker at Sheffler Real Estate in Keokuk. She truly loved helping people get their first home when they thought they couldn't afford it. She was a long time member and former president of BPW in Keokuk. She was an active member of Christ Vision in Keokuk and served on their board. She also ran a prayer line for Christ Vision out of her home. She enjoyed puzzles and crosswords and spending time with her family, including many trips to Florida. In her last years, Julia Sheffler resided at Lexington Square in Keokuk, under the care of their staff and the devotion and dedication of Bruce Bowen of Keokuk who served as co-guardian of Julia with her daughter, Lisa. She is survived by two sons, Tony Sheffler and his wife Deb of Buford,GA and Steve Sheffler of Warsaw, IL, one daughter, Lisa Wohlfeil and her husband Baird of Sterling Heights, MI, five granddaughters, Kelli Sheffler of Alpharetta, GA, Melinda Wolverson and her husband Bert of Columbia, MO, Mary Sheffler of Spring, TX, Julie Sheffler of Tallahassee, FL, Bethany Wohlfeil of Mount Pleasant, MI, one grandson, Blake Wohlfeil of Sterling Heights, MI, one brother, Tom Marlin of Burlington, IA and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Margaret Miller and one brother, James Marlin. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, November 25th, 2013 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Mike Shea officiating. Burial was in the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk. Visitation will be held after 1 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home with family meeting with friends from 6-8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Animal Protection League of Southeast Iowa.
