Juanita M. James, 92, of Keokuk, died Sunday, February 16, 2014 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born November 18, 1921 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Allie E. and Esther Means Scott. She graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1940. On July 6, 1941, Juanita was united in marriage to Paul Benjamin James in Kahoka, MO. He preceded her in death on April 25, 1989. Juanita was first employed at The Chuck Wagon #1 in Keokuk where she worked for fifteen years. She was then employed at Paetz Grocery in Keokuk , which became Denholms IGA, for twenty years. Juanita was a member of the Keokuk Church of the Nazarene. She was also a member of the Keokuk Area Hospital Auxiliary and was the recipient of the 100 Hour Volunteer Pin. She enjoyed making crafts and quilting. Juanita put much love into the quilts that she made for each of her children and grandchildren. She loved shopping and was always ready to go anywhere. She is survived by three daughters, Janice Morrow of Keokuk, Paula Herman and her husband Dennis of Dexter, MO and Esther Floyd and her husband Lanny of Keokuk, two sons, Russell James and his wife Linda of Keokuk and Robert James and Cheryl Lynn Parey of Lake of the Ozarks, MO, twelve grandchildren, Kirk Noel, Gina Watson, Shane Beach, Justin Herman, Marc Floyd, Joel Floyd, Michelle Bassett, Jeff James, Jason James, Christie Woodworth, Col. Steven James and Brandon James, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, one sister, Marilyn Elgin and her husband John of Upper Sandusky, OH, one brother, James Scott and his wife Mary of Warsaw, IL, many nieces and nephews and her best friend, Jennie Ricker of Keokuk. She was also preceded in death by one son, Steven James, one granddaughter, Kristina James and one brother, Allie Scott, Jr. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, February 21st, 2014 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with Pastor Dana Jurgens officiating. Burial was in the Keokuk National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Keokuk Church of the Nazarene, the Keokuk Area Hospital Serenity Room or the Jackson Township Fire Department.
