Obituary

Joyce Beatrice Davis Ramsey, 79, of Keokuk, IA, died Monday, June 23, 2008 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born on December 29, 1928 in Memphis, MO, the daughter of Hugh Arthur and Gladys Lottie Orton Davis. On April 10, 1949, Joyce was united in marriage to Marion Blaine Ramsey, Jr. in Keokuk, IA. He preceded her in death on December 14, 2003. She graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1948. Mrs. Ramsey worked for Mac's Meat Market and J.C. Penney in the late 70's and early 80's. For most of her life she was a stay at home mother. Mrs. Ramsey was a member of the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk. She had been a caretaker to her mother until her death in 2004. She enjoyed monthly lunches with the ladies from the Class of 1948 and was involved with each reunion of the Class of 1948. She liked to collect cookbooks and enjoyed her Siamese cat, Sassy. She also enjoyed vacationing in Branson, MO at least once a year with her son Chris and his wife Julie. Mrs. Ramsey was a loving wife, daughter, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and treasured the time she spent with her family. She is survived by three daughters, Deborah Adams and her husband Don, Linda Burdette and her husband Mike and Jana Heule all of Keokuk, IA, two sons, Chris Ramsey and his wife Julie of Keokuk, IA and Daniel Ramsey of Pontiac, IL, nine grandchildren, Jeff Coppler, Jody Coppler and his wife Michelle, Jamie Hamelton and her husband Terry, Steve Burdette and his wife Adrienne, Aaron Burdette and his wife Elizabeth, Josh Heule and his wife Johanna, Cayla Heule, Jared Heule, Jake Heule and his fiancé Hope Davis, nine great-grandchildren, Brandon, Breanna and Bailey Coppler, Cody Hamelton, Gabriel Burdette, Rachel Heule, Baylie & Brooklyn Heule, Emma White, five nephews, Terry, Steve, Rick and Dale Batley and William Davis and one sister-in-law Irene Bloyd of Keokuk, Iowa. She was also preceded in death by her brother Hughie Alexander Davis, her parents and one great-grandson, Lucas Heule. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial was in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in rural Keokuk. Visitation was held after 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday with family meeting with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Hickory Grove Cemetery.
