Mary "Joyce" Denofrio, 76 of Keokuk died Sunday, December 29, 2013 at the Montebello HealthCare Center in Hamilton, IL. She was born December 1, 1937 in Keokuk the daughter of George Dewey and Etta Sells Kerns. She married Charles Denofrio on January 11, 1963 in Chicago, IL and they later divorced. Joyce had been employed at Harold's Club in Keokuk as a waitress. In later years she worked at Shefflers Rock Shop at the junction south of Alexandria, MO. She was of the Catholic faith and was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary. Joyce was an exceptional cook and made everything from scratch. She was a gardener with a green thumb and was happiest when she was out digging in the dirt. She had a large garden that never had a weed in it. She loved flowers so much that she designated a room in her house as the "Flower Room" and it was filled with flowers and plants. She is survived by two sons, Tim Sheffler of Keokuk and Charles Adam Denofrio of Milwaukee, WI, four grandchildren, Jason Sheffler, Josiah Sheffler, Desiree Jenkins and April Sheffler, several great-grand children, one sister, Betty Sheffler of Alexandria, MO and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Kent Sheffler, one daughter-in-law, Donna Sheffler, one sister, Doris Bennett, and one step-grandson, Lee Ashburn. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 2nd, 1014 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Father Tony Trosley officiating. Burial was in Frazee Cemetery in rural Wayland, MO.
