View Video Tribute Joseph Michael Ward, 79, of Keokuk, IA, died Sunday, September 24, 2006 at his home. He was born on September 20, 1927 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Frank and Laura Alberts Ward. He married Martha Elizabeth Calkins in 1951. She preceded him in death on April 28, 1958. He married Pat Murphy on October 28, 1961. They later divorced. Joe was a veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country during World War II. In his younger years he had been employed at KEMCO in Keokuk, IA. He later was employed at Hickey Contracting for many years. Joe was of the Catholic faith. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed making things for his family and friends. He was called "Uncle Joe" by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by two sons, Patrick Ward and his wife Debbie of Ft. Madison, IA, and Michael Ward, one daughter, Martha Jo, three sisters, Alta Reynolds and her husband Bill, Laura D. Zavela and Frances Smith, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A Gathering of Remembrance for family and friendswas held from 5- 7 p.m. on Friday, September 29 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA. Burial with Military Rites and Flag Presentation wasin theKeokuk National Cemetery.
