Obituary

Joseph J. Schwiete, 87, of Keokuk died Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at Lexington Square in Keokuk. He was born January 21, 1930 in Keokuk, the son of Charles and Kathryn Dimond Schwiete. On January 5, 1951 he was united in marriage to Patricia Roberts at the First Baptist Church in Keokuk. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Kirk David Schwiete (Becky) of Ankeny, IA and Charles Joseph Schwiete of Keokuk, two grandchildren, Joel (Tracey) Schwiete and Matthew Schwiete and two great- grandchildren, Alex Schwiete and Landon Schwiete. He was preceded in death by his parents. Joe graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1949. He was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. He was a member of the All Saints Parish in Keokuk and had been an active member of the Elks Lodge #106 in Keokuk for many years. Joe owned and operated Schwiete Construction, and had worked as a brick mason for thirty-one years, until his retirement in 1985. Joe loved to play golf and had a large collection of logo golf balls. He also enjoyed all spectator sports and was an avid New York Yankee's fan and Green Bay Packer fan. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 6th, 2017 at the All Saints Parish with Father Robert Lathrop officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk. There was also an Elks memorial service held at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Saints Parish or the Elks Lodge #106.
