Joseph Patrick Lieg, 56, of Ft. Madison, IA, died following a fight with cancer on Saturday, December 1, 2007 at the home of his friend and caregiver in Montrose, IA. He was born on January 24, 1951 in Shawano, WI the son of Darwin and Frances Brunner Lieg. He married Pauline Phillips on June 6, 1981 in Ft. Madison, IA and they later divorced. He graduated from Green Bay High School in Green Bay, WI with the Class of 1969. He had been employed at First Miss, the City of Ft. Madison, Catfish Bend Casino and most recently at East West Staffing at Scotts in Ft. Madison. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting. He also enjoyed going to auctions and yard sales searching for antiques. He is survived by two step-sons, Senior Chief David Lynn Lally II and his wife Sandy of Chesapeake, VA, and Douglas Lynn Lally and his wife Daniela of Nurnberg, Germany, four step-grandchildren, Marissa, Brianna, Jacob & Dylan Lally, his parents, Darwin & Frances Lieg of Green Bay, WI, one sister, Mary Kay Suring of Germantown, WI, one nephew Adam Suring and his wife Stephanie of Milwaukee, WI, one niece, Erica Kotajarvi and her husband Michael of West Bloomfield, MI, one great-nephew, Andrew Suring, two great-nieces, Margaret Suring and Sarah Kotajarvi, and a special friend and caregiver, Pauline Gill of Montrose, IA. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Andrew and Edward Lieg and his maternal and paternal grandparents. A Celebration of Life was held at 2 p.m. on January 26, 2008 at the Ivor Fowler Community Center in Montrose, IA.
