Joseph "Joe" Anthony Atterberg, 46, of Quincy, IL, formerly of Keokuk, IA, died Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. He was born on May 23, 1964, the son of Robert Eugene and Beverly Hickey Atterberg. Joe had worked for Arco Barge Company and had also been a semi-truck driver. Joe loved fishing, hunting and being on the river. He loved nature and all its beauty especially free spirited horses which reminded him of his native heritage. His dream was to own a catamaran boat and sail the open seas with his family. He is survived by his fiancé, Geri Musick of Quincy, IL, Geri's children, whom Joe loved and thought of as his own, Timothy Musick USSN stationed in Cantina Italy, Olivia Wagy, Cameron Wagy and Angeleia Wagy all of Quincy, IL, his mother, Beverly Atterberg of Keokuk, two brothers, Kevin Atterberg and his wife Dalene of Montrose, IA and Jeff Atterberg and his wife Linda of Warsaw, IL, one sister, Julie McVeigh and her husband Larry of Hamilton, IL, one half-brother, Sterling Atterberg and his wife Brandy of Niota, IL, one half-sister, Melanie Allen and her husband Jerry of Macomb, IL, two step-brothers, Craig Hasten and his wife Nikki of St. Louis, MO and Buddy Hasten and his wife Tracy of Burlington, IA, several nieces and nephew, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents. A Memorial Service was held at 1 p.m., Monday April 4,2011 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA. Joe gave the Gift of Life as an organ donor to show how important donation is to help save and improve the lives of others. Memorials may be made to the Gift of Hope Organ and Tissue Network.
