Obituary

Johnnie "John" Gilbert Sargent, 61, of Keokuk, IA died Thursday, July 12, 2012 at his home. He was born on September 8, 1950 in Bonne Terre, MO, the son of Gilbert and Marie Wigger Sargent. He graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1968. He had been employed at Folluo's Bait Shop in Keokuk and Papa's Bar in Summitville, IA. John enjoyed playing cards and watching various sporting events. He was an avid reader of the Bible and was very knowledgeable about the scriptures. He was active in the men's groups at First Christian Church in Keokuk and attended Saturday Night Alive services regularly. John was always interested in politics and followed current events, often discussing issues at length with family and friends. He is survived by his mother, Marie Hayden of Keokuk, one brother, Tony (Dannette) Sargent of Keokuk, three nieces, Toni Sargent and Irelynd Sargent both of Keokuk and Lindsay Mason of Hamilton, IL , one nephew, Bronson Sargent of Keokuk, three great-nieces, Lauren and Maddie Reichman both of Keokuk and Lizzie Mason of Hamilton, one great-nephew, Porter Mason of Hamilton, one great-great-nephew, Bryson Reichman of Keokuk, one uncle Revaughn Wigger of Bonne Terre, MO and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and both sets of grandparents. A Celebration of Life service was held at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012 at the First Christian Church in Keokuk with Reverend David Turner officiating. Memorials may be made to the John Sargent Memorial Fund.
