John J. Tolmosoff, Jr., 83, (or, according to John, 41 ½ twice), of New Boston, IA died Friday, August 12, 2011 at his home. He was born on January 20, 1928 in Ensenada, Mexico the son of John J. and Mary Filatoff Tolmosoff. He first married Sally Walker and to this union five children were born. He later married Laurie Hughes. She preceded him in death. He graduated from Ramona High School in Ramona, CA and loved playing basketball during his high school years. John moved to New Boston, IA from Ramona in 2005. He had been self-employed as a contractor while living in California. John had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening. He also enjoyed cooking and barbequing. John was a very kind person and was always willing to help his friends and family. He is survived by three daughters, Debbie Henson and Lisa Tolmosoff of Keokuk, IA, and Cindy Snyder and her husband Terry of Hamilton, IL, one son, Larry Tolmosoff of Ramona, CA, five step-children, Ricky, Laurie, Linda, Lisa and Bill, thirteen grandchildren, Joey Pollard, John and Billy Henson, Michael and A.J. Harvey, Meagan and Trenton Snyder, Sarah and Daniel Nelson, Tommy and Alex Lawrence, Andrea Gotier and David May, two great-grandchildren, Kourtnee Henson and Brooklyn Harvey and one sister, Anita Nazaroff of Wasco, CA He was also preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Shirley Pollard, one sister, Mary Nazaroff and two brothers, Dave and Mike Tolmosoff. A Celebration of John's life for family and friends was held Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at Kinnick on the River in Montrose, IA. Burial will be at a later date in the Sunset Cemetery in Ramona, CA.
