John Stark, Jr., 91, of Keokuk, died Sunday, November 13, 2016 at the River Hills Village in Keokuk. He was born on April 4, 1925 in West Burlington, IA the son of John H. and Hazel Becker Stark. On October 4, 1942 John was united in marriage to Doris VanAusdall in Kahoka, MO. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Sandy Stark of Keokuk and one son, John (Angel) Stark III of Montana, five grandchildren including Shane Stark of West Des Moines, IA and ten great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter Constance "Connie" Ruark, sons-in-law, Bob Stark and Tony Ruark, one brother, Francis "Dee" Stark and one sister, Evelyn Hockett. John proudly served in the United States Army obtaining the rank of Sergeant. John was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk and the American Legion in Keokuk. He was the owner and operator of Johnny Stark's Auto Body & Service on 12th and Main in Keokuk for a number of years, he then worked for Sharp Motors in Keokuk. His last 24 years of employment was with the Wichita Burner Co. before his retirement in 1990. His hobby was wood carving, carving all kinds of beautiful Santas and Disney characters. He enjoyed golfing and working in his garden and yard. Graveside services with military rites was held at 2 P.M. Wednesday, November 23rd at the Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk.
