John F. Shuman, 91 of Kahoka died March 30, 2021 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka. He was born November 20, 1929 in Clark County, the son of James Alan and Virgie Glisan Shuman. John graduated from Kahoka High School with the Class of 1947. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force as a Staff Sargent and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict from 1948-1955. In 1951, he was united in marriage to Willa Walker in Kahoka. For over sixty-nine years they shared a love which saw them through the joys and sorrows of life. She survives. He is also survived by his children, Belinda Kellerman (Don) of O'Fallon, MO, Bonnie O'Brien (Dennis) of Luray, Wayne Shuman (Jenna) of Kahoka, Judy Wood of Wayland, Larry Shuman (Diana Verdught) of Kahoka and Charlie Shuman (Kim) of Kahoka, ten grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and one sister, Mekey Laffoon of Lebanon, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, Tony O'Brien, one granddaughter, Karmen Shuman, one brother, Robert Shuman and one sister, Vivian Shuman. John had been employed by St. Joseph Hospital and later at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk as a maintenance engineer supervisor until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of St. Martha's Catholic Church, the VFW and the Moose Lodge. John enjoyed attending stock car races. He was a gifted woodworker and enjoyed countless hours in his workshop. He liked to spend time outdoors and mowing his yard. John was very adventurous and would try anything. Above all his biggest joy was his children and grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. on April 5th, 2021 at the St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kahoka with Father Rob Fields officiating. Burial with military rites were held in the Kahoka Cemetery. Visitation was held prior to the service from 10- 11 a.m. at the church with family meeting with friends at that time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus.
