John Kennedy Pierce, 73, of Warsaw, IL died Monday, June 13, 2011 at his home. He was born on March 5, 1938 at Hamilton, IL the son of Kennedy and Katherine Cochran Pierce. He graduated from Hamilton High School with the Class of 1956. On September 18, 1960 John was united in marriage to Anna Belle Gerdes at the Presbyterian Church in Warsaw, IL. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Tena Hatfield and her husband Clifford "Rusty" of Basco, IL, Jolene Ison and her husband, Steve of Keokuk, IA, one son, John Kennedy Pierce II of Warsaw, IL, Two granddaughters, Stephanie Ison and Gabrielle Hatfield, one brother, Kay Pierce and his wife Trudy of Arlington Heights, TX and one sister, Kathleen Jenkins and her husband, Tom of Hamilton, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents. John served in the United States Army from 1958 through 1963 and proudly served his country during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a member of the Warsaw Presbyterian Church, Warsaw, IL. John was a gun enthusiast, enjoyed motorcycle races, traveling and enjoyed spending his winters in Florida. He was the owner of the Pierce Brothers Building Contractors in Hamilton, IL for 42 years working on many building projects in the area before retiring in 1998. He was also the owner of the Pierce Apartments (now known as Hotel Iowa) in Keokuk, IA for 15 years. Private family graveside services with military rites were held at the Oakland Cemetery, Warsaw, IL with Rev. Susan Loper officiating. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the granddaughter's education fund adn may be mailed to 495 N. Co. Rd 300 Warsaw, IL 62379. The Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA is in charge of arrangements.
