Obituary

John Pezley, 85, of rural Montrose, IA died Wednesday, November 22, 2006 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. He was born March 24, 1921, the son of Harrison and Kathryn Swinderman Pezley. He was united in marriage to Virginia Belle Tweedy in Montrose, Iowa on October 19, 1940. She survives. Other survivors include four sons, Roger Pezley and his wife Jean of Kahoka, MO, Michael Pezley and his wife Beverly of Donnellson, IA, Ron Pezley and his wife Leslie of Ft. Madison, IA, David Pezley and his wife Michelle Lynne of Donnellson, IA, a daughter Jonquil Simmons and her husband Loren "Skip" of Wapello, Iowa, a brother Laverne Pezley and his wife Mary of Argyle, IA, thirteen grandchildren, Annette Luebke, Chris Pezley Shawn Pezley, Michelle Kay Pezley, Pete Simmons, Scott Simmons, Gabe Meierotto, Bryan Humphrey, A Taylor Humphrey, Emily Meierotto, Charlie Smith, Trevor Pezley, and Brandon Pezley, seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, five brothers and one granddaughter, Nicole Simmons. John was a veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country during World War II. He farmed for many years near Montrose, IA and Revere, MO. He had been employed at Thomas Truck and Caster Company in Keokuk, IA for over twenty-five years retiring in 1983. He was a member of the Argyle Presbyterian Church. He served on the Central Lee School board from 1969-1972. John was a member of the Argyle Volunteer Fire Department for many years and served as Fire Chief. He enjoyed doing lawn and garden work, woodworking, camping and fishing. His greatest joy was being with his family. He was very proud of all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Rev. Charles Hammack officiating. Private family burial will be in the Argyle Memorial Garden Cemetery, Argyle, IA at a later time. Visitation will be held after 1 p.m. Friday with the family meeting with friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
