John William Oehmigen, 81, of Keokuk, IA, died Thursday, January 20, 2005, at the Keokuk Area Hospital. He was born on January 14, 1924, in Keokuk, IA, the son of Otto and Lilly Boone Oehmigen. John was united in marriage to Vergie I. Trent on February 23, 1946. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Ron Oehmigen of Jamesville, NY, three step-daughters, Hedy Sturgeon of Keokuk, IA, Joan Ellison of Baird, IA and Linda Lowrey of Keokuk, IA, two sisters, Geraldine Symmonds and Ruth Jobe, both of Keokuk, IA, one brother Gene Oehmigen of Florida and ten grandchildren. Mr. Oehmigen was a veteran of the United States Army and served during WW II. He was a lifelong resident of Keokuk, IA and graduated from Keokuk High School. He had been employed at Keokuk Steel Casting for 40 years, retiring in 1986. He enjoyed wood-working and gardening A memorial service was held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 26 at the River Hills Village chapel with Pastor Craig Burton officiating. A memorial was established for the Keokuk Humane Society.
