Obituary

John Thomas Morrison, 85, of Kahoka passed away October 5, 2025 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka.

He was born on May 31, 1940, in Memphis, Missouri, the son of William and Iva Moon Morrison. John graduated from Memphis High School with the Class of 1958. After high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, receiving an honorable discharge in 1961.

After returning home, John met Kathleen Kline, and they were married in August of 1965. To this union, two children were born, Gretchen and Eric. They later divorced. He was later united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Haskins Kay, who preceded him in death on August 31, 2025.

John was well known in the community as the owner of Highway Fish Market in Wayland, which he operated for over fifty years.

He was a true outdoorsman at heart and loved spending time on the river—fishing in the summer and trapping in the winter. The river was his happy place. He also liked trips to the casino, where he enjoyed testing his luck at the craps table.

He is survived by his daughter, Gretchen Haage (Clifford Deierling) of Novinger, MO; his son, Eric Morrison (Jamie) of Warsaw, IL; two stepchildren, Sheena Vaughn and Doug (Debbie) Kay of Burlington, IA; grandchildren, Aaron Haage (Teaira), Tahnee Combs (Austin), Brant Sackman, and Lauren Buckert; great-grandchildren, Katie Calcutt, Emmaleigh Haage, Willow Haage, Channing Combs, Cooper Combs, and Emelia Clark; one great-great-granddaughter, Brooklyn Calcutt; and his good friend, Kent Hunziker.

In addition to his wife, John was preceded in death by his parents; a son in infancy, Darryn Morrison; one brother, Herman Morrison; and two sisters, Betty Milanov and Helen Becraft.

In keeping with John's wishes, there will be no service or visitation.

The Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka is assisting the family with arrangements.
