John McGirl, 89, of Eldon, MO died Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at the Villa Marie Skilled Nursing Home in Jefferson City, MO. He was born July 23, 1928 in Warrensburg, MO, the son of Earl and Emma Bodenhamer McGirl. On January 18, 1958, John was united in marriage to Vera Sawyer in the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka, MO. She preceded him in death on August 22, 2008. He is survived by two daughters, Joyce Bass of Wyaconda, and Teresa Sutherland of Moberly, one son, Marty (Colleen) McGirl of Eldon, nine grandchildren, Walter (Sarah) Morris of Bloomfield, IA, Faron (Jennifer) Morris of Clarksburg, Ian (Ashlee) Sutherland of Columbia, Tyler Sutherland of Moberly, Logan Sutherland of Columbia, Shelby Sutherland of Moberly, Kyle (Alicia) McGirl of Eldon, Caitilin (Seth) Scheiderer of Eldon, and Kellie (Michael) Suttle of Italy, several great-grandchildren, several great-great-grandchildren, one brother, Ralph (Rita) McGirl of Warrensburg, two sisters, Shirley (Dave) Feyen of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and Bernice Krueger of Las Vegas, NV, one brother in law, Gerald (Judy) Sawyer of Kahoka, four sisters in law, Virginia Johnson of Memphis, Darlean Mohr of Canton, LaNora Davis of Bartlette, TN, and Betty Sawyer of Kahoka along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Danita Morris, one brother, Kenneth McGirl, one sister, Dorothy Roberson. John was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Kahoka, MO. Vera and John lived in Kahoka and raised their children in Kahoka before moving to Eldon, MO. John was employed with the Kahoka Cheese Factory. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Friday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka with Pastor Dixie Laube officiating. Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery. Visitation was held an hour prior to the service from 1 – 2 p.m. on Friday with the family meeting with friends at that time. Memorials can be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
