John R. Marshall, 71, of Keokuk, IA died Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Keokuk Area Hospital. He was born on May 28, 1942 in Washington, D.C., the son of Jackson Leroy and Agnes Penefill Marshall. On September 30, 1966, John was united in marriage to Linda Mckiernan in Ewa Beach, HI. She survives Other survivors include three sons Garry Marshall and his wife Patty of Machesney Park, IL, Patrick Marshall and his wife Jeannie of Chantilly, VA and Clayton Marshall and Tara Anderson of Orlando, FL, four grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren, one step great-granddaughter, two sisters, Ramona Merryman and Nellie Shadrack both of MD and one brother, Robert Marshall of MD. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary Miller and Volinda Marshall in infancy, three brothers, James, George and Joseph Marshall. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country from 1963 – 1967. He had been employed at Midwest Carbide in Keokuk for thirty years. In his younger years, John enjoyed racing motorcycles in hill climbs, moto-cross and endurance races. Later, he began racing go-carts with his sons. John especially enjoyed building street rods and working with old cars. Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 29th, 2013 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Dave Barrett officiating. Burial will be at a later date at the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk. There was no visitation. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
