Obituary

John Edward Marlin, 62, of Keokuk, IA died Thursday, June 14, 2012 at his home. John was born on August 1, 1949 in Keokuk, IA the son of Edward and Teresa Ada LeMaster Marlin. In 1973 John was united in marriage to Connie Adams in San Francisco, CA. She survives. Other survivors include, two sons, Ryan (Lacey) Marlin and their children Addisyn, Tucker, Avarie, Scarlette and Oliver all of Citrus Heights, CA, Kevin (Crystal) Marlin and their children, Caleb and Hanna all of Keokuk, one daughter, Megan (Jeremiah) LaBresh and their children Aidan, Kieran, Torrin, Eliana and Joella all of Des Moines, IA, two sisters, Kathryn (Jack) Tisdale of Spring Bay, IL and Mary Ann (Lloyd) Crombie of Washington, IL, two brothers, Barrett Marlin of Spring Bay, and Paul Marlin of Keokuk, many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Philip and Peter Marlin. John was a veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served as a Nuclear Reactor Operator on a fast attack submarine during the Vietnam War. John graduated from Cardinal Stritch High School in Keokuk with the Class of 1967. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Electronics Engineering from Cogswell College in San Francisco, CA. John and Connie lived in California, Virginia and Minnesota before returning to his hometown of Keokuk five years ago. John was an Electronics Engineer for Intel, IBM and Gen Rad for a total of sixteen years. He taught Electronics and Computer Science at ITT, American River College and SCC for a total of 12 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Keokuk, IA where he sang in the Sunday choir and with the Saturday night Praise team. He also played on the church softball team. John's priority in life was his family. He was a wonderful, devoted husband, father and grandfather who leaves for his family a lifetime of wonderful memories. John enjoyed singing, playing softball, golfing and researching genealogy. He was a member of Great River Players Community Theatre in Keokuk and enjoyed performing in several musicals. He had also participated in Kardiac Kapers. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 24 at the First Christian Church in Keokuk with Reverend David Turner officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Keokuk or Lee County Hospice.
