John R. "Jack" Lammering, Jr., 82, of Keokuk, IA, passed away Tuesday, June 17, 2008 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. He was born on March 10, 1926 in Keokuk, IA, the son of John R. and Mabel Snyder Lammering. On August 1, 1952, John was united in marriage to Annabelle Stice at St. John's Episcopal Church in Keokuk, IA. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Debby Glasgow and her husband Robert of St. Charles, MO, Jane Fay and her husband David of St. Louis, MO, and Barbara Ames of Keokuk, IA, one son-in-law, Jamie Ames of Keokuk, IA, eleven grandchildren, Rob Glasgow, Anne Isom, James, Joseph and Alex Glasgow, Bryan and Adam Fay, Sarah Pendergast, Denise North, Don and Jennifer Shinn, thirteen great-grandchildren, Ethan, Gavin, Lindsey and Austin Glasgow, Kendall and Elliot Isom, Ella Glasgow, Matthew, Jack & Mia Pendergast, Katlyn, Abby and Olivia North, two sisters, Nancy Lammering of Keokuk, IA and Erna Huele of Florida and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, John Lammering III, one grandson, John Thomas Glasgow, his parents, and two sisters, Marge Roberts and Jean Naylor. He graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1945. After his graduation from High School, he enlisted in the United States Marines and proudly served his country in the Pacific during WW II and the Korean Conflict. While in the service he participated in action against the enemy at Iwo Jima, Volcano Island and the occupation of Japan. In his younger years, he was a craftsman in his father's plastering business. He then was employed at Hubingers in Keokuk, IA for 30 years until his retirement. He was a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church in Keokuk, IA where he was a faithful volunteer. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #41 and the Local 48 American Federation of Grain Millers. John was an avid reader and enjoyed the Keokuk Public Library. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, traveling and camping. He loved the Iowa State Fair and attended the fair every year for fifty years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. Graveside services with military rites were held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 20 at the Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. John's Episcopal Church in Keokuk.
