Obituary

John L. Kuckelman, 85 of Keokuk, IA formerly of Aurora, CO died Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at River Hills Village in Keokuk, IA. He was born on May 30, 1928 in Effingham, KS, the son of John Francis and Margaret Rose Sauer Kuckelman. On January 11, 1950, John was united in marriage to Wilma Earp in Effingham, KS. She survives. Other survivors include five children, Dennis Kuckelman of Taos, NM, Jeanne Berryman and her husband Richard of Grand Junction, CO, Kevin Kuckelman and his wife Jeanne of Keokuk, Julie Palmer and her husband Scott of Littleton, CO and Jan Turner and her husband Dave of Auburn, WA, seven grandchildren, five brothers, Leonard Kuckelman and his wife Betty of Metairie, LA, Karl Kuckelman and his wife Mary of San Antonio, TX, Don Kuckelman and his wife Carolyn of Topeka, KS, Claire Kuckelman and his wife Carol of Olathe, KS and Jerry Kuckelman and his wife Virginia of Atchison, KS, one sister, Helen Thompson of Kansas City, MO and many nieces and nephews. John was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country during WW II. John received his BA degree in Education from the University of Kansas and received his Masters Degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder, CO. He had been employed as a guidance counselor in the Aurora Public Schools in Aurora, CO for twenty-seven years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk and the St. Therese Catholic Church in Aurora, CO. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. During his college years John was a member of Phi Kappa Theta He enjoyed reading, traveling and gardening. He was a proud KU graduate and a fan of the crimson and blue Jayhawks. He was also a fan of the Denver Broncos. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the St. Ann's Catholic Church in Effingham, KS. Burial with military rites was in St. Ann's Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Ann's Parish Stained Glass Window Fund.
