John Jack West, 87, of Keokuk, IA died Thursday, July 9, 2020 at his home.
He was born on April 6, 1933 in Keokuk, IA the son of John Carl and Mary Alice Herman West. On February 19, 1953 Jack was united in marriage to Patricia A. Hopkins. She preceded him in death on August 2, 2010.
He was of the Catholic faith.
A lifelong resident of Keokuk, Jack had been employed at Patton Construction, Best Construction, and Hickey Construction. After retirement, Jack worked with his son and grandsons at the family business, Custom Brick and Stone Company. He was so proud to work with them, teaching his concrete craft to his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed.
While Jack's sons were growing up, he coached several little league teams and touched the lives of many young men who still live in the community. He expected perfection and sportsmanship from the kids he coached.
Jack was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Jack is survived by one daughter, Tracey West (Dan O'Connell) of Keokuk, two sons, Jerry (Laura) West of Montrose, IA, John (Jenny) West of Keokuk, eight grandchildren, Jeri (Michael) Jersey of Santa Rose, FL, Tiffanie (Ralph) Bennett of Keokuk, John (Jessica) West of Keokuk, James West (Brianna Crosson) of Keokuk, Marcus West of Keokuk, Jarrett West of Iowa City, IA, Jason West of North Liberty, IA and Jennifer (Mike) Lipscomb of Gainesville, FL, eight great-grandchildren, Ella, Madilyn and Skyler Jersey all of Santa Rosa, FL, Brooke West of Burlington, IA, Gerrick, Patrick and Gracie West all of Keokuk, Andy Lipscomb of Gainesville, FL, three step-granddaughters, Samantha Baker and Taylor Kay both of Keokuk and Chelsea Baker of Storm Lake, IA, four step-great-grandchildren, Blake Baker, Emmett Kay, Emberlee Bridges and Rylee Taylor all of Keokuk. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary (Bob) Payne of Keokuk and Carolyn Jorden of Aurora, CO.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Robert West and three sisters, Mable Abston, Rose Mary Taylor and Marilyn Oliver.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 17th, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Floyd Payne officiating. Burial was held in the Sands Cemetery in St. Francisville, MO.
Visitation was held after 1 p.m. on July 16th at the funeral home with family meeting with friends from 5-7 p.m.
