John Thomas Fetters, 88, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.
He was born November 7, 1937, in Baring, Missouri, the son of John and Mary Delaney Fetters. He graduated from Memphis High School with the class of 1955. John was a veteran of the United States Air Force and proudly served his country from 1955 to 1959.
On September 4, 2004, John was united in marriage to Marilyn Heinze Henselman. She survives.
John is survived by one daughter, Shelly Foster (Jim) of Tampa, Florida; one son, Jason Fetters of Tampa, Florida; two grandchildren, Jonathan Foster and Skye Armstrong; one stepson, Tyler Henselman of Kirksville, Missouri; two sisters, Betty Fetters and Mildred Klem; one son-in-law, Ted Armstrong, and two sisters-in-law, Maxine Kirchner and Mary Montgomery (Kenny).
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Angela Armstrong; three sisters, Mary Rockhold, Ellen Gundy, and Joan DeRosear; and brother-in-law, Harold Heinze.
John had been employed by Ray Printing in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Memphis and St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Kahoka.
In his free time, John enjoyed fishing and relaxing while watching sports, especially basketball and baseball. He was a loyal fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, the Kansas City Royals, and the Missouri Tigers. He rarely missed the chance to cheer them on.
A prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka with Father Rob Fields officiating. Visitation will follow, with the family receiving friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. The day will conclude with burial at St. Paul Cemetery in Kahoka.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Catholic Church in Memphis.
