John T. Boone

John T. Boone, 92, of Keokuk, IA died Thursday, March 22, 2012 at his home. He was born on November 27, 1919 in Keokuk, IA the son of Homer and Estella Ashley Boone. On June 21, 1942 he was united in marriage to Mabel K. Wirtz at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk, IA. They would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this year. She survives. Other survivors include one son, John A. Boone and his wife Mary of Rocky Mount, MO, two daughters, Ruth K. Clanton and her husband Garrett of Daphne AL, and Mary H. Reeves and her husband Charles of Keokuk, IA, seven grandchildren, Todd (Leanna) Boone, Jacob Boone, Charles (Kimberlee) Reeves III, Dr. Garrett (Kenya) Clanton, Carmon Reeves(Isaac) Iverson, Tina Clanton (Mark) Engelmeyer and Michelle Boone (Jason) Smith and 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Boone and two brothers, Daniel C. Boone and Homer Boone. John graduated from Keokuk Senior High with the class of 1938. He proudly served in the United States Air Force during WW II and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was employed at the Hubinger Co. – H.J. Heinz in Keokuk as a plant accountant for 33 years retiring in 1984. John was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk, IA and had served as an elder since 1983. He enjoyed gardening and growing and selling his tomatoes. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 26, 2012 at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk with Rev. Matt Hunt officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk, IA. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul United Church of Christ or Lee County Hospice.
