Joetta Jane Fountain, 95 of Kahoka died Friday, December 23, 2022 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, MO.
Joetta was born at home northwest of Memphis near Hitt, MO. She was the first child born to William Merritt and Virgil Marie Stone Hyde. She was later joined by two brothers, Wayne and Eddie and a sister, Carol.
She graduated from Memphis High School with the class of 1944. After her high school graduation, she met Burley Bertram. She went to work at Sheaffer Pen Co. working in the office. She worked there for a year and a half, until she and Burley were married on January 6, 1946 in Memphis, MO.
They lived on a farm north of Luray, where Joetta helped work on the farm, grow a huge vegetable garden and took the bounty of her garden to the kitchen where she canned a variety of things. Her most important job was raising her children, Junior and Bonnie. After 30 years, she and Burley divorced. She then married Alba Fountain on December 10, 1977. After twenty years of marriage, Alba preceded her in death in January of 1997.
She worked at the Clark County Nurses Office as a nurse assistant for thirty years until her retirement in 1997.
Joetta and Alba liked to dance to Big Band music and would travel to Quincy, Des Moines and even Nebraska to dance. She also enjoyed playing cards, reading and spoiling her cat, Smokie. Most of all, she enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was a member of the Kahoka Presbyterian Church. Her faith was an active part of her life and enjoyed the fellowship she received from her church family.
She is survived by a son, Junior Bertram (Linda) of Luray, a daughter Bonnie Boltz (Ron) of Lancaster, two grandchildren, Kelly Bertram (Teresa), and Jesse Boltz, a great grandson, Cole Hayes and three great great granddaughters. She is also survived by a stepson, Lary Fountain, two step granddaughters Tami Carter (Jessy) and Sheri Ankeney, five step great grandchildren, Ryan Christian, Keyan Christian, Lukas Ankeney, Kaleb Ankeney and Jakob Ankeney and two step great great grandchildren along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her brothers, Gary Hyde and Eddie Hyde, her sister, Carol Dochterman, her grandson, Tucker Ramsay, her granddaughter, Casey Bertram, step daughter-in-law, Janet Fountain, step-grandson, Tony Fountain and her beloved cat, Smokie.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on December 28, 2022, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka. Burial was held in the Kahoka Cemetery.
Visitation was held one hour prior to the service on Wednesday from 1 – 2 p.m. with the family meeting with friends at that time.
Memorials may be made to the Kahoka Presbyterian Church or the Clark County Nutrition Center.
