Joe Arthur Green, 71, of Bonaparte, IA died Thursday, October 15, 2009 at the Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua, IA. He was born on November 2, 1937 in Chariton, IA, the son of Elmer and Alena Belle Bartholomew Green. On September 1, 1961, Joe was united in marriage to Betty Sellers in Ft. Madison, IA . She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Green-Berg of Coralville, IA and Stephanie Lyon and her husband Philip of Ottumwa, IA, one grandson Eric Green of Ottumwa, IA, two sisters, Betty Vickers and her husband Bill and Vivian Green all of Bonaparte, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Green graduated from Bonaparte High School in Bonaparte, IA with the Class of 1955. He had been employed at Pioneer Hybrid in Mt. Pleasant, IA for fifteen years, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Bonaparte United Church in Bonaparte, IA. Joe's number one priority in his life was his family and he treasured the time he spent with them. Joe enjoyed playing pool, fishing, working on his cars and woodworking. Joe gave "The Gift of Sight" through donation to the Iowa Lions Donor Bank. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m., Monday, October 19 at the Bonaparte United Church in Bonaparte, IA with Pastor Paul Rekward, Evangelist Philip Lyon and Chaplain Eric Reyman officiating. Memorials may be made to the Bonaparte United Church, the Van Buren County Hospital or the Henry County Health Center Infusion Therapy Department in Mt. Pleasant, IA.
