View Video Tribute Joan B. Seabold, 83, of Keokuk, IA, died Thursday, March 1, 2012 at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born on January 12, 1929 in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Allen James (Doc) and Goldie Mae Deck Porter. On June 20, 1948, Joan was united in marriage to Paul Seabold in Keokuk, IA. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2004. Joan was a graduate of Keokuk Senior High School. In her early years she had been employed as bookkeeper at Page's Locker and then as office manager at Tri- State Dairy in Keokuk. She and her husband Paul owned and operated Seabold Exotic Animal Farm in Keokuk. Over the years the farm had been a home to a black bear, white-tailed deer, llama, monkeys, camels, bison and many other animals. Their farm had been open to the public and provided an educational experience for visitors. Joan loved all of the animals on the farm and enjoyed taking care of them. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and brought many smiles to the faces of those she knew and loved. She is survived by one sister, Patricia Elder of Keokuk, one brother, Bill Porter and his wife Martha of Wayland, MO, eleven nephews, Bill Porter, Jr. and David Porter both of Tucson, AZ, Rick Whiteaker of Ft. Madison, IA and Gary Whiteaker of Clermont, FL, Douglas Porter of Wayland, MO, Max Smith and his wife Sharon of Grand Junction, CO, Gerald Smith and his wife Starr of San Diego, CA, Shawn Elder of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Shawn Elder, Jr., Kent Elder and Kendall Elder all of Keokuk, six nieces, Julie Thompson and her husband Byron of Augusta, IL, Shirley Jarrad and Donna Christensen and her husband Bill all of Grand Junction, CO, Hope Elder, Trisha Elder and Aggie Stinson all of Keokuk. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Rosemary Porter. Funeral serviceswere held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2012at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Roy Cochenour officiating. Burial was in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in rural Keokuk.
