Jo Anne Gardner Shaw

Jo Anne Gardner Shaw, 88, of Kahoka, passed away Saturday, September 12, 2026, at Scotland County Hospital in Memphis, Missouri.

She was born September 20, 1937 in Keokuk, the daughter of Richard and Alberta Parsons Gardner. She graduated from Revere High School.

On December 2, 1956, Jo Anne was united in marriage to Melvin “Gene” Eugene Yates. To this union, six children were born. They later divorced. On May 21, 1982, she was united in marriage to Michael David Shaw, Sr. He preceded her in death on October 8, 2007.

Jo Anne was employed at Woolworth in Keokuk for many years. She was a member of Peaksville Christian Church and enjoyed staying active and involved in the activities offered at the nursing home. She especially enjoyed working on puzzles and spending time outdoors. Her family brought her great joy, and she treasured the time she was able to spend with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and enjoyed having them around.

Jo Anne is survived by four children, Kenny (Kim) Yates of Texas, Kevin (Terrisa) Yates of Revere, Sheila Yates of Kahoka, and Pam (Terry) Broomhall of Keokuk; twelve grandchildren; Jennifer (Josh) Tipton, David (Nichole) Yates, Khela (Steve) Lovell, Camie (Josh) Davolt, Quintin Kite, Matthew (Brandy) Kelley, Dwaine (Jamee) Kelley, Christina (Mikele) Farmer, Trisha Worrell, Kelly (Anna) Yates, Jeremy (Liz) Broomhall, and Eli (Kyla) Broomhall; fifty-five great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Randy Yates; one daughter, Gina Yates; a stepson, Michael D. Shaw, Jr; one grandson, Randy Yates; and one great-great-granddaughter, Rubee Gene Justice.

According to her wishes there will be no service or visitation.

The Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka is assisting the family with arrangements.
