Jean C. Schmid, 81, of Keokuk, IA, died Friday, June 15, 2012 at her home. She was born on September 25, 1930 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Harvey and Pearl Krumm Phillips. On January 10, 1953, Jean was united in marriage to Paul Schmid in Kahoka, MO. He preceded her in death on May 20, 2010. Jean graduated from Keokuk High School. She had been employed for many years at Sheller Globe in Keokuk and retired from there. She was of the Lutheran faith. Jean loved living in the country surrounded by nature and enjoyed watching the birds. She was gifted in needlepoint and had made many beautiful gifts for her family. She is survived by one daughter, Cindy Schmid of Keokuk, two step-sons, David Johnson of Florida and Richard "Dick" Johnson of Wyoming, two grandchildren, Jessica Schmid Crowell of Keokuk and Ryan Schmid of Virginia, four step-grandchildren and one sister, Mary Carlson of Keokuk. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Kevin and Anthony Schmid, and two sisters, Delores Johnson and Pat Schulte. A Gathering of Remembrance was held from 6 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 20th at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with the family meeting with friends at that time. Burial was in the Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Lee County Hospice or the First Lutheran Church in Keokuk.
