James Sherman Wickham, 75, of Montrose, IA, died Saturday, December 29 at the Ft. Madison Hospital in Ft. Madison, IA. He was born on January 3, 1932 in Montrose, IA, the son of Ira Rouse and Margaret Ellen Calhoun Wickham. On May 8, 1956, James was united in marriage to Shirley Wright in North Platte, Nebraska. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Carrie White and her husband Royce, Marcia Morgan and her husband David and Ellen Toops and her husband Mark all of Montrose, IA, one son, Thomas James Wickham and his wife Sonya Jean of Montrose, six grandchildren, Renell McCoy, Shawn Morgan, James David Morgan, Rona Boregga, Ron Allen, and Trish Welch, eight great-grandchildren, Trish Carden, Will Carden, Logan Allen, Riley Welch, Colby Welch, James Levi McCoy, Kaden Louis McCoy and James Morgan, and one sister, Ruby Ott and her husband Leon of Ft. Madison, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Theodore Wickham and one sister, Norma Pihl. James graduated from Montrose High School with the Class of 1949. He served in the United States Army for four years and in the United States Air Force for sixteen years retiring in 1972 with the rank of Tec Sergeant. Following his retirement from the Air Force he owned and operated Wick's Tavern in Montrose for sixteen years, retiring in 1989. In his younger years he served as a volunteer fireman for the Montrose Fire Department. He enjoyed collecting stamps and coins and working crossword puzzles. He also enjoyed woodworking and had crafted many beautiful items for his family. A prayer service was held at 2 p.m., Monday, December 31 at the Montrose Presbyterian Church in Montrose, IA. A memorial service will be held at a later date in the spring.
