James Daniel Johnson, 66 of Callao, MO died Saturday, January 4, 2014 at his home in Callao, Missouri. He was born September 21, 1947 in Keokuk, Iowa the son of Carl and Bonnie McIntosh Johnson. On June 26, 1967 he was united in marriage to Susan Gail Levy in Salinas, CA. She preceded him in death April 12, 2001. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War in reconnaissance and on tanks in the Army. Jim was the owner of Johnson Refrigeration since 1977 and retired four years ago. He was a long time member of Refrigeration Service Engineers Society. Jim had a passion for treasure hunting and even wrote a book called "Treasure Hunting and Metal Detecting." He is survived by his fiancé, Carol "Cookie" Middaugh of Callao, MO, two sons, Jimmy Johnson and his wife Nici of Keokuk, IA, and Carl Johnson and his fiancé Amber Smith of Callao, MO, a daughter, Roberta Johnson of Peoria, IL, a step son Brian Broste and his wife Isaura of Raymore, MO, two step daughters, Sheri Cox and her husband Brian of Lee's Summit, MO and Jodi Bohnenstiel of Louisburg, Kansas, five grandchildren, Trenton Johnson, Quentin Johnson, Travis McCoy, Sarah Moore and her husband Joey and Patricia Byers, eight step grandchildren, Luke and Sabrina Broste, Lily, Isaac, Sarah and Ruthie Cox, and Stella and Scarlett Bohnenstiehl, five great granddaughters, two sisters, Sharon Trone and her husband Dave of Keokuk, IA and Billie Hyatt and her husband Dale of Keokuk, IA, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister in infancy, a niece, Tammy Newlon and a great nephew, Lance Eversmeyer. Gathering of remembrance was held Tuesday, January 7th, 2014 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO with family meeting with friends from 6 – 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gary Sinise Foundation.
