James Richard Finley, 80 of Ft. Madison, IA formerly of Montrose, IA died Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at his home.
He was born March 9, 1931 in Adel, IA the son of Vannie and Bessie Thomas Finley. On December 29, 1980 he was united in marriage to Sandra Hatfield Becerra in Las Vegas, NV. She survives.
Other survivors include one son, Mike Finley and his wife, Nina of Port Richey, FL, two daughters, Elissa Becerra Chaney and her companion Raymond Williams of Kekouk, IA and Melissa Becerra Boyd and her husband Mike of Ft. Madison, IA, nine grandchildren, Crystal Becerra, who was raised by Jim and Sandra, of Ft. Madison, IA, John Chaney and his wife Crystal of Ft. Madison, IA, James Chaney and his significant other Misty McKnight of Keokuk, IA, Tyler Trueblood of Ft. Madison, IA, Mariah Boyd of Ft. Madison, Orion Boyd of Ft. Madison, IA, Tia Hardy and Felina Grose both of Florida, ten great-grandchildren, Kaylie and Madison Winn, Mallory Chaney, Ariana Guymon, Lathan Chaney, Angel Chaney, Lexus Chaney, Kearsten Hardy, Kylie Hardy and William Grose, one birth brother whom he was recently reunited with, John Skinner of California and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Ron Finley, one daughter, Angel Becerra, two sisters, Wanda and Patricia, three brothers, Wayne, Harold and Frank Skinner.
Jim was veteran of the United States Navy and retired after twenty years of service to his country.
Jim attended Ft. Madison High School in Ft. Madison, IA. He then attended the San Diego Community College in San Diego, CA where he received his AA degree.
Over the years Jim worked at IBM in San Diego, CA, Shaffer Pen in Ft. Madison, IA, Cargill in Ft. Madison, IA, Cressford Construction Company in Ft. Madison, IA, a small engine shop and he also ran a café. His most recent employment was with Gleason Corp in Ft. Madison, IA as an electrician. He retired in 2000.
Jim attended the Sandusky Methodist Church in Sandusky, IA. He was a member of the American Legion, Shriners and Masons.
Jim loved to tinker with electrical and mechanical things. . He enjoyed football and was a fan of the San Diego Chargers and Dallas Cowboys. He worked crossword puzzles and loved to play cards and cribbage. Jim was a wonderful cook and loved to fix meals for his family
Memorial services were held at 7 p.m., Friday, December 2, 2011 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Chaplain Jim Luder officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, IA.
Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors or Hospice of Central Iowa.
