James R. Dennis, 82, of Warsaw, IL died Saturday, August 28, 2010 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. He was born on July 14, 1928, in Augusta, IL, the son of Sylva and Alice Starkey Dennis. On July 20, 1949 James was united in marriage to Virginia Lapsley in Warsaw, IL. She preceded him in death on November 29, 2004. James was a veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country from 1945-1948. James had been employed at Steel Castings in Keokuk as an inspector for 28 years until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of Bel Air Baptist Church in Keokuk. He loved to go fishing in his free time and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. James enjoyed the company of his family and especially his grandchildren. He is survived by one daughter, Sheila VanDever of Keokuk, IA, four sons, John Dennis and his wife Sheryl of Dallas City, IL, Ronald Dennis and his wife Sally of Grove City, OH, James Dennis and his wife Sue of Davenport, IA, and Tim Dennis of Warsaw, IL, eight grandchildren, Andy Dennis and his wife Angie, Candi Dennis, Greg Dennis and his wife Melinda, Brian Dennis and his wife Jennifer, Matthew Dennis, Jenna Dennis, Alaina Dennis, Katie Kessler and her husband Cory, seven great-grandchildren, Mia Grace Kessler, Katelyn Dennis, Connor Dennis, Henry Dennis, Theodore Dennis, Molly Dennis and Elijah Dennis. He was also preceded in death by one sister in infancy, Amelia Dennis, one grandson, Dale Dennis, one daughter-in-law, Diane Dennis and one son-in-law, Richard VanDever. Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday September , 2010 at the Bel Air Baptist Church in Keokuk, IA . Burial with military rites was in the Oakland Cemetery in Warsaw, IL. Memorials may be made to the Hancock County Health Department.
