James D. "Dan" Kendrick, 81, of Keokuk died on Sunday, May 05, 2013 at his home. He was born on May 5, 1932 in Davis County, IA the son of Alfred and Lavelle Smallwood Kendrick. On June 28, 1958, Dan was united in marriage to Kay Bell in Ottumwa, IA. She survives. Dan graduated from the Eldon High School, Eldon, IA with the Class of 1950. He was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War. Dan was employed with the Rock Island Railroad and later the Keokuk Junction Railroad for 35 years before his retirement in 1994. He enjoyed being outdoors and working in his yard. He found great strength in studying his bible. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinal and Iowa Hawkeye fan. In addition to his wife he is survived by one daughter, Cheryl Kendrick Lammer and her husband Pat of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, two sons, Jim Kendrick and his wife Kim of Keokuk, and Jon Kendrick of Keokuk, four grandchildren, Amy Hardee and her husband Clayton, Jennifer Kendrick, Katie Negron and Rebecca Kendrick, two great grandchildren, Owen Rockenbach and Ella Negron, one sister, Carol Penrod of Ottumwa, IA. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Jeanne Bollinger and one sister, Mary Comer. Graveside services with military rites were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2013 at the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk with Pastor Terry Lovell officiating. Memorials may be made to the Keokuk Salvation Army.
