Jack Leon Taylor was born October 24, 1941 in Kahoka, MO the son of Charles H. and Helen B. Toops Taylor. He was raised by his mother and his step-father Emmit J. Dobbins. He was married to Sandra Sue Whiteside on May 16, 1959. He then married Judy Kay Lambert on June 15, 1973. On August 15, 1992 he married Bonnie Hoffstetter Jack attended Keokuk public schools and graduated from the Keokuk Senior High with the class of 1960. Jack operated the Benner T grocery store in Farmington, IA, and later worked at grocery stores in Burlington and Ft. Madison, IA. He also managed the Red Fox grocery store in Keokuk, IA. He was then employed by the City of Keokuk, IA in maintenance. His responsibilities included being the bridge swing master and also taking toll on the old bridge. He retired from the City of Keokuk in 2003 after 25 years of employment. He also took water samples for the Corps of Engineers, painted parking lot stripes, cleaned churches and was employed at Hubingers for a short time. Following a serious car accident in 1961 he enrolled in a Dale Carnegie Course in Effective Speaking and Human Relations at Burlington, IA for his rehabilitation. He was a member of the Elks Club, Keokuk Yacht Club and the VFW. He loved restoring trucks and cars with his black Corvette being his favorite car. He really enjoyed spending time with his buddies drinking coffee and shooting the breeze. He was a very generous man and supported many worthy organizations including the March of Dimes and the Police Department. Jack was always willing to lend a helping hand to his friends and family. His family was very important to him and he loved to spend time with his children and grandchildren. Jack Leon Taylor, 63, of Keokuk, IA died Saturday, October 1, 2005 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. He is survived by one daughter, Stefanie K, Westercamp and her husband Roy D. of Mt. Sterling, IA, one son, Benjamin Scott Taylor and his wife Carla of Farmington, IA, his mother, Helen B. Dobbins of St. Patrick, MO, one brother, Robert L. Taylor of Port St. Joe, FL, two sisters, Dolly K. Beaird of Rock Island, IL, and Onnilese Dobbins of Glenwood, IA, three grandchildren, Aaron N. Westercamp, Allison N. Taylor and Mackenzie J. Taylor, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles H. Taylor, step-father, Emmit J. Dobbins and his former wife, Bonnie Hoffstetter. Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October, 4, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Phillip Schmidt officiating. Burial was in the Bethlehem Cemetery, rural Clark County, MO Memorials may be made to the V.F.W., Elks Club or the Keokuk Area Hospital Foundation.
