Jack Kavanagh

Jack Kavanagh, 82, of Keokuk, IA died Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, MO following a very brief illness. He was born May 16, 1936 in Keokuk, IA, to Dayle and Irma Kavanagh. He married Marla Collier on October 5, 1958 in Keokuk. His loving wife of 53 years preceded him in death on October 26, 2008. Jack retired after a combined 45 years in the U.S. Navy. serving in active duty and with the department of the Naviy's weapons research test and evaluation programs. He was an avid traveler in his motorhome spending the winters in southern California. Jack lived each day to be with family and friends and was always looking for the next tennis or pickle ball match. He is survived by his daughter, Gail Kavanagh of Ridgecrest, CA, his son-in-law, Greg Day of Kuwait, two grandsons, Keith Day and Joshua Day both of Oak Harbor, WA, a granddaughter, Megan Spano of Apopka, FL, several great-grandchildren and cousins. Jack was also preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Cindra Day. Graveside services with military rites were held at 2 p.m., Friday, June 8, 2018 in the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk, IA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Association.
