Irvin Junior Kinkeade, 89, of Montrose, IA died Friday, February 4, 2011 at the Montrose Health Care Center in Montrose, IA. He was born December 22, 1921 in Argyle, IA the son of Irvin Oscar and Mary Fay Derr Kinkeade. Junior graduated from Argyle High School with the Class of 1938. Junior was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and proudly served his country during WW II. He was a member of the American Quarterhorse Association and a charter member of the American Paint Horse Association. He also judged horse shows in Hagen, Germany in 1985 for the Germany Paint Horse Association. Junior owned and operated Kinkeade Stables in Keokuk, IA. He also worked for Sunset Stables in Ft. Madison and Riverside Stables in Montrose, IA. He showed and judged horses all over the world. Junior was one of the best horse trainers in the United States. He is survived by four sons, Ron Kinkeade and his wife Bettie of Danville, IA, Clinton Derr and his wife Arla of Wayland, MO, Michael Kinkeade, Lyle Price and his wife Karla of Collinsville, OK, two daughters, Lori Price and Claudia Kinkeade, six grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, two sisters, Rozella Johnson and her husband Harold of Montrose and Leila Hancock of Farmington, IA and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Wilda Saltzgraver. Graveside services with military rites were held 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 9th, 2011 at the Oakland – Sand Cemetery in Vincennes, IA with Rev. Geoff Mitchell officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Montrose Care Center.
