Irene Marie Case, 91, of Keokuk, IA formerly of Vincennes, IA, died Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the Keokuk Area Hospital. She had been in failing health for some time. She was born September 21, 1921 in Des Moines, IA the daughter of Nellie Watson. She was raised by her grandparents Mike and Lettie Fisher. On October 18, 1938, Irene was united in marriage to William A. Case. He preceded her in death on March 28, 1978. Irene was a member of the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk. She was also a member of the Women of the Moose in Baldwin Park, CA. She transferred to the Women of the Moose in Keokuk and later transferred to Clark County Moose Lodge in Kahoka, MO. She had worked at several hospitals and nursing homes in Baldwin Park, CA and Keokuk, IA and also worked as a cook at the Baldwin Park High School in California. She retired in 1979. Irene was a devoted mother and homemaker who greatly enjoyed caring for her family. She loved to garden and canned much of what she raised. She was a wonderful cook and everyone loved to come to her house to eat. Irene was always willing to volunteer her time and cooking talents to the various organizations that she was involved in. She was a skilled seamstress and loved crocheting and enjoyed making all kinds of fancy work to give to her friends and especially for her family. Irene loved animals and was always willing to take in and care for stray animals. She was an avid bowler and was on several leagues. In 1992 she received her 50 year pin from the Keokuk Women's Bowling Association. She is survived by seven children, Carol Markell of Vincennes, IA, William Case and wife Kathy of Ava, MO, Karen Real and husband Bob of Keokuk, IA, Cheryl Shipley and husband Francis "Skeet" of Revere, MO, Allan Case and wife Shirley of Argyle, IA, Raymond Case and wife Norma of Farmington, IA, Shawn Case and wife Debbie of Vincennes, IA, twenty-two grandchildren, Frank Shipley, Steve Shipley, Shawn M. Case, Richard Markell, Bryan Case, Duane Case, Billy Markell, David Markell, Robert Markell, Doris Horton, Debbie Smith, William Case, Barbara Dorsey, Deanna Nabor, Sheila Parks, Shari Jo Burdette, Rick Derr, Dean Derr, Danny Derr, Amy Lambert, Elisha Lindsay and Lisa Kemper, fifty-three great-grandchildren, forty-one great-great-grandchildren, one sixth generation great-great-great-grandson, Tyson Markell and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her twin brother Warren, a sister, Margie Waltz, an uncle, Paul Fisher and a special friend George Rossi. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2013 at the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk, IA with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Sand Cemetery in Vincennes, IA. Memorials may be made to the New Testament Christian Church or the American Cancer Society.
