Howard Clayton VanAusdall, 95, of Keokuk, IA formerly of Montrose, IA died Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at the Keokuk Area Hospital, Keokuk, IA. He was born on September 24, 1917 in Montrose, IA the son of Ursel and Emma Creswell VanAusdall. Howard was united in marriage to Helen Younkin on November 4, 1938 in Montrose, IA. She preceded him in death on October 17, 1993. On March 12, 1995 he was united in marriage to Arlene Walker Shutt in New Boston, IA. She preceded him in death on April 19, 2005. He has been a resident of Keokuk since 1995, moving from Montrose, IA where he had farmed since 1952 until his retirement in 1993. Howard graduated from the Montrose High School with the Class of 1935. In his younger years Howard enjoyed hunting quail, pheasant and going fishing. He enjoyed flying and after the children left home, he continued his flying and received a private pilot license. He was a member of the Bethel Bible Church, rural Argyle, IA. Howard is survived by one son, John VanAusdall and his wife Marian of Spring Branch, TX, one daughter, Patricia Welch of Clay City IL, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Harold VanAusdall and one sister, Anna Geisleman. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 23rd, 2013 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Jed Linebaugh officiating. Burial was in the Montrose Cemetery, Montrose, IA.
