View Video Tribute Howard R. "Spike" Burgess, 61, of Keokuk, Iowa, died Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at his home. He was born September 15, 1949 in Keokuk, IA the son of Elmer and Mildred Thompson Burgess. He was united in marriage to Vickie Blaise on April 30, 1976. She preceded him in death on September 7, 2001. He later married Kathy Thorn Spraggins on May 29, 2010. She survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Brenda Witte and her husband Kenny of Rock Island, IL, two step-sons, Wayne Robert Hays of Warsaw, IL and Billy Joe Hays of Keokuk, IA, his mother, Mildred Burgess of Keokuk, IA, six brothers, Robert McGee and his wife Wanda of Wyoming, Jessie McGee and Kevin McGee both of Lockridge, IA, Danny Burgess and his wife Linda, Rick Burgess and his wife Sue and John Burgess and his wife Bobette all of Keokuk, IA, four sisters, Thelma McGee of Keokuk, IA, Kim Korschgen and her husband Phil of Keokuk, IA, Jeanne Denning and her husband Wesley of Kahoka, MO and Sally Bennett of Keokuk, IA. eight grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by one son, Howard Burgess II, one sister, Ellen McGee and his father, Elmer Burgess on February 14, 2011. Howard had been employed at Feinburgs in Ft. Madison, IA for eighteen years, retiring in 2010. Howard enjoyed junking, attending auctions and playing scratch off lottery tickets. He collected John Wayne collectables, swords, knives and angels. Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, February 19, 2011 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Robin Korschgen officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk, IA.
